Welcome to LambdaTuner
We are a group of automotive enthusiasts through and through. When we offer something for sale it is something we have spent several months developing, testing, changing and finally delivering a final product that would only satisfy us when it is perfect. We will only sell unique, durable products that have good value and that we would use on our own cars. We hope that you get many years of use out of these parts and services and that they provide trouble-free service for you. If you ever have an issue with your LambdaTuner product please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail, through our website or by phone (269.425.1877).
What is the meaning behind the name LambdaTuner? Essentially “Lambda” is a name given to a very accurate type of sensor employed by most engine calibrators called a wide-band exhaust oxygen sensor. The term Lambda also refers to a numeric value received as feedback from this sensor where the numeric value of 1.0 always represents the stoichiometric combustion condition (i.e. a chemically perfect combustion cycle) where all molecules of fuel chemically react with all molecules of oxygen. Air fuel ratios are calculated by multiplying Lambda by the stoichiometric value for a particular fuel.
- The 11th letter of the Greek alphabet (Λ, λ)
- Used in scientific equations to represent the number one (1)
- Used as the root number for calculating engine Air Fuel Ratios
While many people utilize Air Fuel Ratios to tune engines, it is difficult to accurately and properly calculate the ideal ratio when mixing fuels of differing specific gravity and oxygen requirements. However, if the Lambda value is used, it is easier to determine how the engine is operating in relation to stoichiometric and it is easier to determine how mixing fuels affects the overall combustion cycle.
Most importantly, using Lambda helps a tuner predict how an engine is going to respond to an increase or decrease in fuel. This combined with our experience of tuning boosted and fuel injected cars means we can quickly dial in calibrations and do so without making guesses as to how large or small of a change to make.
Although Lambda is key in providing a good calibration, calibration experience is what makes them great, safe and pleasant to drive on the street. All of these are things we strive for when building an engine calibration.
